Diploma in International Tourism
& Hotel Management
AIM To acquire knowledge and skills in Tourism Management which
will help students to begin a career in junior management in the international
tourism industry.
STRUCTURE One 6 month semester of intensive academic studies and 5
months of practical training in the industry leading to the award of the diploma
or for progress to the Higher Diploma.
LANGUAGE The teaching language is English. Students may choose to study
German, Russian or French. ENTRY To enter this course students must have
successfully completed the Certificate course in IUFS or an equivalent course
elsewhere.
COURSES BEGIN February and August. See the academic calendar in
the application form.
TOTAL TEACHING HOURS 740 contact hours and 360 hours directed learning
hours with practice. Full total hours 1100 hours.
COURSE SUBJECTS &
DESCRIPTIONS Recreation and
Leisure Management (80 hours) This unit develops the unit Tourism and its
Environments with a study of how recreation and leisure provision are organized
and managed. Asia-Pacific Tourism (80 hours) This unit is a special study of
the growing importance of this region for international tourism. The study will
include the impacts of tourism on the region. Financial Decision Making (80
hours) This unit covers the main principles of financial decision making at a
more detailed level than is available in the certificate, using material drawn
from the tourism industry. Organization and Management (80 hours) This unit
will provide an understanding of organization structures and processes, and
issues regarding management in an increasingly changing global
context. Managing Personnel and Employee Relations (60hours) This unit
requires students to develop a critical approach to the analysis of human
resource practices and problems within an international context, especially the
problems of a multicultural workforce. Introduction to Marketing (80 hours)
This unit provides an introduction to the theory and practice of marketing in a
variety of international organizational contexts and environments.
Foreign Language (80 hours) This unit
continues the development of language skills started in the certificate
course. Management of Attractions (60 hours) This unit applies the principles
of the functional areas and management theories to a special study of tourist
attractions. Customer Behavior in Tourism (80 hours) This unit emphasizes the
special nature of the buying process in tourism and the personal and the
interpersonal factors, which affect the process. Hotel and Resort Management
(60 hours) this unit covers hotel and resort management principles and the
social, economic and environmental issues involved in resort
planning.
